The History of Wilcox Estates

About Theodore B. Wilcox:

Wilcox Estates is a community built on the former country estate of Theodore B. Wilcox, a “Captain of Industry and Magnate of the China Flour Trade”.

Wilcox was born in 1856 in Agawam, Massachusetts. At age 22, he was hired by William Ladd’s bank and relocated to Portland. More on his life here.

Notably, Wilcox was the chairman of the Lewis and Clark Centennial and American Pacific Exposition and Oriental Fair (Portland, Oregon, 1905).

Wilcox’s primary residence was in the King’s Heights neighborhood.

Wilcox died in April 1918, following a bout of illness, possibly the Spanish Flu (the first documented cases were in March 1918 in Kansas).
