WILCOX POOL RULES - SUMMER 2021
Welcome back! We have adjusted our rules based on the NEW guidance of Governor Kate Brown and Multnomah County. Thank you for your patience as we navigated Covid protocols.
Lap Swim is remaining 9am-10am and 10am-11am. Please continue to register online as we only have 4 lanes available each session. Open swim is 11am-7pm.
We are now welcoming guests. Wilcox Residents may have up to 5 guests and can enjoy the pool without time limits. Online reservations are no longer required. However, we ask that you sign in with the Lifeguard upon entry. All residents MUST be present at check-in and remain in the pool area at all times when they have a guest. If your name does not appear on the Wilcox Residents master list, staff will ask you for I.D. This is for everyone's safety and to maintain the integrity of the neighborhood pool.
SWIM TEST:
Wilcox children / teens must pass a swim test to the satisfaction of the Lifeguard on duty and be 12 years of age or older in order to be allowed in the pool unaccompanied. Parents / guardians (18 yrs +) wishing to leave their child at the pool alone for the first time should check-in with the Lifeguard on duty and fill out an Emergency Contact Sheet. This form will be kept on file for the summer. The child must successfully pass the swim test while their parent / guardian is present. Once the child has passed the swim test, the parent / guardian is free to leave. In addition, all minor guests must be accompanied by a resident parent / guardian regardless of their swimming ability.
The swim test consists of jumping into the deep end, swimming from the 8 foot marker to the center of the pool, turn over and float on their back in the middle of the pool for 10 seconds, turn back over and continue swimming to the 3-foot marker. Any stroke, without touching the walls/bottom or needing assistance is acceptable. If the child makes it to the other side of the pool, but was clearly struggling they will be asked to remain in the shallow water and their parent / guardian must remain present. If their swimming skills improve throughout the summer, they can be retested.
Children who have not passed the swim test must have a parent / guardian (18 yrs +) with them at all times. They cannot remain at the pool unaccompanied.
Children in diapers must wear swim diapers. Please dispose of them in a separate bag that you provide then add that bag to the garbage. Bring extra bags. Same applies to soiled diapers.
No glass bottles or containers, or any equipment utilizing glass are allowed in the dressing rooms, pool or pool area. If you see someone with glass ask them to put it away.
No food, drink or gum is allowed in the water. Food and non-alcoholic drinks must be consumed at a table or lounge chair. Alcohol is NOT permitted in the pool area.
No running, jumping, pushing or dunking in the pool area will be permitted.
Do not enter the water if you:
-have a sore throat or cold
-have a rash or open cut on the skin
-are wearing a Band-Aid
No dogs or other pets are permitted in the pool area, nor inside the pool itself.
No soakers, water guns or water squirting is allowed in the pool or pool area.
Small inflatable tubes / donuts are permitted in the pool. However, rafts are not as they impede the site line of lifeguards. Small children can be hidden underneath which causes a major safety issue.
Children wearing water wings or floaties must remain in the shallow end with a guardian. Please do not leave your child unattended. These are not considered reliable floatation devices.
Children wearing life jackets may swim in the shallow and deep end.
Radios or stereos will not be allowed unless they produce sound through a headset or earpods.
As a safety measure, (chemical or weather issues) Lifeguards have the ability to close the pool. Notice of such closure will be posted on the exterior of the pool house including the expected reopening time.
The pool house, pool area and pool are designated NO SMOKING areas.
Lifeguard orders must be obeyed at all times. If, in the opinion of the lifeguard, the behavior of any member or guest is unacceptable, she/he/they will be asked to leave and must do so at once.
While on duty, lifeguards are not permitted to have friends at the pool.
SWIMMING IS ALLOWED ONLY DURING POOL HOURS AND WHEN STAFFED BY A WILCOX LIFEGUARD.
All persons who are using the pool do so at their own risk. The Wilcox Homeowners Association, its directors, agents, and employees are not responsible for accidents, injuries, or for lost or stolen items.
Please contact Jill Clark, Pool Manager or Pool Committee with any questions or concerns you may have regarding use of the pool.
